FERNANDO HERNANDO MAGADAN
Fernando belongs to the generation of upcoming choreographers that combine their passion of dancing at a renowned dance company (NDT) while nurturing their choreographic journey.
Dancer and choreographer Fernando Hernando Magadan (1981, Zaragoza, Spain) originally trained to become a professional gymnast from 1988 until 1993.
At the age of thirteen he switched to dance and entered the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Clasica in Madrid (1994). In 1997 he went to England for his education at the London Studio Centre (1997 – 1998) and the Central School of Ballet (1998 – 2000).
From 2000 until 2001 he danced at the Santamaria Compañía de Danza.
Fernando joined Nederlands Dans Theater II in The Hague (2001 – 2004) and moved on to Nederlands Dans Theater I in 2004.
At Nederlands Dans Theater Hernando Magadan danced in many works of the resident choreographers Lightfoot León, Jiri Kylian and other renowned choreographers such as William Forsythe, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Johan Inger, Crystal Pite, Jacopo Godani.
He was nominated for an award in the ‘Outstanding Male Artist’ (modern dance) category for the ‘Critic’s Circle’ National Dance Awards 2003.
Next to his dancing career, Hernando Magadan is developing himself as a choreographer.
Whilst making pieces for the workshops of Nederlands Dans Theater (Switch, from dancer to choreographer) Hernando Magadan was invited to create a piece for his collegue dancers of Nederlands Dans Theater I in the programme ‘UpComing Choreographers’ 2005 (Shift Key) and 2007 (Evergren).
Recently he has created a new work (Close-Up) for The Curve Foundation Dance Company (UK).
Besides creating new works, Hernado Magadan also coordinated the workshop Switch in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
In the summer of 2009 Fernando choreographed a piece for the Maximum Dance Course of the Nederlands Dans Theater.
