Dance is play. At least it is in Jorma Elo’s world. The Finnish choreographer is famous for playing his way towards intricate steps, unexpected moves and fascinating dance. Now he and the National Ballet dancers shall play their way through a new full-night work.
Jorma Elo once dreamed of a career as an ice-hockey player, but he became a dancer and subsequently one of the world’s most sought-after choreographers. In the 2004 edition of the New York Times' Year in Review, Jorma Elo was selected as “a talent to follow”. It would appear that the newspaper was right.

Since then Elo has been one of the dance world’s busiest men with new pieces for the New York City Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Royal Ballet in Copenhagen, and, not least, three pieces for the National Ballet in Norway. The latest piece was Døden og piken in 2008, which Aftenposten described as "obscure, bizarre and quite enjoyable". Elo’s pieces are both modern and classical. The foundation is classical ballet, but with a modern and hugely energetic twist. There is rarely a particular theme or plot, but there is always a strong atmosphere and great stage magic!
