Alexander Ekman is an internationally sought after choreographer producing entertaining works of artistic integrity within the contemporary and classical dance world. Alexander Ekman has created over 47 works to date. His works are being performed worldwide by dance companies such as the Boston Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, Norwegian National Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, Dresden Semper Oper Ballett, Wiener Staatsballett, Sao Paulo City Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet and Les Ballets de Monte Carlo among others. Alexander Ekman's works are known for their clever ideas, fast-paced choreography and abundance of humor. Besides holding the choreographic credit, he regularly designs the set and costumes for his creations.

Alexander Ekman also creates unique performances in collaboration with different disciplines. His dance film 40 M UNDER (2009 Cullberg Ballet) formed part of a triple bill performance.

In 2012 Alexander Ekman incorporated pop singer Alicia Keys into his choreographic work 'Tuplet' for her annual Black Ball event in New York. This work was originally made for Cedar Lake Dance Company utilizing a score created with the dancers' own rhythmic impulses and employing their bodies as percussion instruments.

In 2014 Alexander Ekman made his debut on the main stage of the Norwegian Opera House in Oslo, with a surrealist interpretation of the renowned classical ballet 'Swan Lake', creating his own version for the Norwegian National Ballet. Together with top designer Hendrik Vibskov and a new musical score by composer Mikael Karlsson, Alexander Ekman produced a groundbreaking performance in which he transformed the stage into an actual lake. Hendrik Vibskov adopted part of the choreography for his Fall Collection Show in Paris and for his Copenhagen Show during Fashion Week. 'A Swan Lake' has received outstanding attention worldwide, returned to the Oslo Opera House in 2016 and toured to Paris.

After premiering to great acclaim ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ in 2015 at the Royal Swedish Ballet, Alexander Ekman created his fourth full evening work for the Dresden Semper Oper Ballett in 2016. ‘COW’ was enthusiastically received by audience and critics and Alexander Ekman won the prestigious German Theater Award FAUST for this production.

In 2017  Alexander Ekman created the short work ‘JOY’ for the Joffrey Ballet Chicago and a new full evening for the Paris Opera Ballet entitled ‘Play’. 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' had its North American Premiere with the Joffrey Ballet Chicago in April 2018. In the Fall of April 2018 Alexander Ekman created a new short work named 'FIT' for Netherlands Dans Theater II.

In March 2019 Alexander Ekman contributed to Cirque du Soleil's 'One Night for One Drop' Charity Gala in Las Vegas with the water version of 'Flocking', part of his 'A Swan Lake' created in 2016.

In April 2019 the Royal Swedish Ballet premiered Alexander Ekman's latest full evening creation 'Escapist', taking full advantage of the dazzling stage movements of the Royal Swedish Opera House with existing and new music by Mikael Karlsson.
