Rachelle Anaïs Scott

Rachelle Anas Scott is a female French/American contemporary choreographer and performing artist who grew up in New York City and currently resides in Basel, Switzerland. Her work has been performed as emerging platforms by various dance companies, including Nurnberg Ballet, and Theater Basel, as well as in freelance productions and dance films. 

Rachelle has received accolades for her work, including being an award winner in Dare 2 Dance Film Festival and the Mannheim Arts and Film Festival, a finalist in the SzlDuFestival Dance and an Official Selection for Dance Camera Istanbul and Ork Kota Dance Film Festival. She has also worked with a renowned artist from L'Opra de Paris in collaboration with the international dance collection Room to Room and has two pieces featured in the Blois Danse Festival 2022 in France. In September 2022, her latest creation, a visual art and dance collaboration with Kunstmuseum Basel and the Picasso/El Greco exhibition, premiered in Basel, Switzerland. Rachelle was selected for Orsolina 28's Call for Creation residency in June 2023, and her most recent duet,"Us", created for a research grant by the Canton of Basel-Stadt Department of Culture, was also presented in the Choreographic Competition Hannover 37 in June 2023. Her newest creation premiered in the NUTIDA Nuove danzatrici/ori Festival in June 2024. 

From 2024 to 2025, Rachelle is participating in the "DoubleTanz" mentoring program of the Migros Culture Percentage, under the guidance of renowned choreographer Ihsan Rustem. Additionally, as part of the Next Steps program, Steps Festival is spotlighting Rachelle as an emerging choreographer, commissioning her to create new works for the St. Gallen Dance Company in autumn 2025 and Theater Bern in spring 2026. She will also create a new work for NDT2 as part of their Up & Coming Choreographers evening in July 2026. Recently, she was performing with the Hofesh Shechter Company at the Old Vic in London on the production "Oedipus", starring Rami Malek and Indira Varma. Rachelle will be joining Marco Goecke for his debut season as Artistic Director at Theater Basel in the 2025/2026 season. 

Rachelle received her dance training from The Alvin Ailey School and the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art & the Performing Arts. She was awarded the YoungARTS/ New York Regional Award in Dance and the Eiger Scholarship Award upon completing high school. Rachelle continued her studies at The Juilliard School, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. After graduation, she danced as a member of the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet in New York City, a soloist dancer with Nrnberg Ballett Staatstheater in Germany, and a member of Theater Basel in Switzerland. Rachelle has performed works by numerous esteemed choreographers, including Hofesh Shechter, Sharon Eyal, Alexander Ekman, Crystal Pite, JiKylin, Richard Wherlock, Ohad Naharin, Sidi Larbi, Andonis Foniadakis, Goyo Montero, Johan Inger, among others. She also collaborated with Hofesh Shechter at the Old Vic in London in 2025 on the productions Oedipus, starring Rami Malek, and Indira Varma. Her talent and dedication have earned her the Princess Grace Award from the United States and the Bavarian Arts Prize from Germany.
